PMHNP/ANP-BC, MSN, MPH
Kenneth received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science Education from the University of Florida prior to moving to Boston to complete a Master of Public Health (MPH) at Boston University School of Public Health. He began his career as an administrator and grants manager in the Adult Clinical AIDS Program at Boston City Hospital, now Boston Medical Center. After witnessing the impact and benefits that clinical staff had on their patients, Kenneth decided that his abilities would be best developed and expressed as a direct care provider.
Kenneth then attended the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Institute of Health Professions Graduate School, where he completed a combined Registered Nurse/Master of Science in Nursing with subspecialties in Adolescent Health and HIV. Much of his early work was with runaway and street youth as well as adults and adolescents living with HIV. During his twelve years as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP-BC) practicing primary care, Kenneth realized that to comprehensively treat and maximize the personal health and life potentials of his patients, he had to fully address their mental health and psychiatric needs.
To this end, Kenneth completed a Post-Master Certificate at the University of South Florida to become a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). As a PMHNP-BC, he has worked in a wide variety of settings, including private practice dedicated to working and professional clients, high school and university student mental health care, addiction medicine, community and public health, and academic medical/psychiatric institutions. He is experienced in the care of patients from late adolescence to late-middle adulthood with Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Bipolar Disorders, Binge-Eating Disorder, Somatic Disorders, Sleep Disorders, Trauma, and Psychotic Disorders. He also has significant experience in LGBT health care, emerging gender and sexuality identity issues, life-stage transitions, and living with chronic disease.
Kenneth has a total of twenty-two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, and he maintains Board Certifications as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Guiding principles for his practice include, evidence/scientific-based care and collaborative care with therapists, PCPs, and specialists. His goal is to work in partnership with his patients to maximize their personal potentials, increase their abilities and confidence in self-care, and guide them to experience their authentic selves. Kenneth’s interaction style can range from casual, support, directive, or challenging depending on the patient’s needs. He always maintains a collaborative and respectful approach, and strives to establish a safe therapeutic environment with compassion, empathy, and significant dose of humor when needed.
